The Course

The Civic Integration Examination Abroad as of the 1st of May 2023

The integration examination abroad consists of three parts that will no longer be administered by telephone, but by means of the computer as of the 1st of November 2014.

If you want to become eligible for a provisional residence permit (MVV) you must meet the requirements in the area of command of the Dutch language and of Knowledge of the Dutch Society (KNS). Examined during the integration exam abroad are:

  • Knowledge of the Dutch Society (KNS)
  • Speaking skills
  • Reading skills

The parts reading skills and speaking skills measure if the person integrating commands the language level A1 of the Framework NT2. For the KNS-part (Knowledge of the Dutch Society) the questions and associated movie are updated because of the change of the throne.

You do not have to write during this examination. These three parts of the examination can either be taken at the same time or separately. Should you fail the KNS, speaking or reading part of the exam you only have to retake the part of the examination you failed.

Most part of the questions will be asked in the form of multiple-choice questions. For the speaking part of the exam you must also record answers. These answers will be assessed by human evaluators and not by the computer.
